How long should I keep a backup file

Hello! I am fairly new to Sage-- I have taken over the billing position at a small business and have been doing things as per the instructions of my predecessor.

She had a system of doing a backup once per week, and it looks like there are backup files dating all of the way back to 2014.

Is it necessary to keep the backups from that long ago if we are doing them on a weekly basis? Would it be more beneficial to do daily backups if we are making changes to the books daily?

TLDR: If I am doing regular backups how long should I keep old versions of the backups?

Think of how much work you want to redo if a problem occurs and that might help you decide how often to back up. If you are working steadily for hours, you might want to do a backup after each half hour or hour or lunchtime and at the end of the day for example.

I recommend using Sage's backup - it is the easiest to restore if done right.

How long to keep backups: Depends on what your company requires. You probably don't have to keep every one of your older backups - maybe just quarterly ones for example. This needs to be discussed with management or accountants or auditors - depends on your company.
