Still Having VI Importing Issue

SOLVED

Hello,

I am still having an issue with imported product item numbers being skipped.  I do not know what could be causing this as I have successfully imported 250,000+ items with the same number scenarios.  Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how was it resolved?

I have approximately 8,400 items that need to be removed as yet to complete phase 1 of our inventory control process.  The 8,400 are the only ones left keeping us from moving on to phase 2.  All history for these items have been removed.  Any help or suggestions in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

You should use the Delete/Renumber/Merge Utility in Inventory.

Where would I find that, please?  All I see is the "Delete & Change Items" in the IM>Utilities section.

Sorry for this question, but I am still fairly new to using Sage and not familiar with the many features yet.

If you are unfamilar then I strongly suggest working with your reseller. Read the Help files on the feature.

Thank you for your response.  I am new to this company and one of my primary duties is to clean the database and then we want to customize it to better suit our operation.  Prior to my arriving here, the software has just been used "out of the box" so to speak, and the company would really like to utilize it to its' full potential.

I am usually pretty quick to pick up on things if they given a bit more detailed explanation, however I will consult the help files and/or the reseller too.  Once again, thank you for your response, just thought someone may have had this before and would be able to point me in a direction to save some time an expenses.

Best wishes for a happy holiday to you and yours...

I'm not terribly clear as to what you are doing.   In one place it appears you are trying to import something.   In another it appears you are trying to remove something.   Then you say it is skipping something.  Not knowing the details and not knowing where your original post is,  it's a little hard to provide suggestions.

Typically when you import you will get a message in the VI import log that gives you some clue as to why something was not imported.   Being able to see that message would be helpful.  Similar with the change/delete/merge log.

    Hello TomTarget,

Thank you for your reply and I apologize for not being clearer in my explanation of the overall goal.

Basically we have a database packed with items we received from the vendor as part of their default database which unfortunately contains every item they have had since the inception of their database.  Out of over 130,000 items contained in their (manufacturer) database, we only use around 1,800  of those items.

Our goal is to clean out the waste to better manage our usable items.  I have compiled excel files of this list and then reduced the large Excel file to many excel files (around 600 items per excl file) for the purpose of importing those excel files via Visual Integrator in order to delete them via the "Delete and Change" Utility.

Our reseller wrote a script for us in order to make this bulk loading possible and with the exception of the 8,400 items I have mentioned in this query, the process has worked flawlessly.  With respect to your mentioning viewing the "VI import log" I have done that thinking the same thing as you have mentioned, however the result of that file simply states "File Skipped" without further explanation.  This is what has created the quandary I now face.

I hope I have made the purpose of what I am attempting to do and the issue I am having more clear.

    Thank you,

    Martin

Go to Job Maintenance in your VI Job and take a look at Tab 3. Select and Tab 4. Record.  You have a filter in Select or a Skip Record in Record causing the "File Skipped."

As usual, BigLouie is right.  You should get with your reseller to understand how this routine is supposed to work.

BadgerJerry is on the right track.   It's being skipped verses being rejected so something in the select tab is filtering it out.

Ok if you have 130,000 items and you only use 1,800 then your should import into Delete/Renumber utility the items you don't want and they probably have no history. Then update the utility and it will remove the records for you. If there is history you must merge into one item. May people create an item such as Obsolete Part and merge into there. Note that it is extremely important that you work with your reseller on this as you could easily merge all items into one.

    Thank you, BadgerJerry!

You were right on with your suggestion!

There was a "Skip Record" filter turned on in the "RECORD" tab.  I removed that filter and I have been able to delete all of the remaining files!

Thanks again, and thanks to all that took the time to help me!
