Value change for bulk products

SUGGESTED

Dear Sagians,

We have 2000+ products to change the cost. We need to change the cost only without changing the quantity. Sage have the option for this using Value change under stock module. But this has to run one by one. Is there any way to do this in one shot?

Regards,

what is your stock valuation method?  If its standard you can import new entered costs, or do a cost roll.  If you are using average can you misc issue out all the inventory and import it back in with a new cost?  If you are using average or FIFO, wouldn't the costs be correct based on recent purchases?

Have you seen this KB that discusses what Deb is referring to?

How to update the valuation method of a product and/or multiple products?

    Products
    Sage X3

    Description

A Customer decided to change the valuation method for all products from Average to STD

    Resolution

    To change for one product:

    1. Navigate to Common data, Products, Product-sites
    2. Cost tab, locate the field Valuation, change it to STD.

To change for some or all products:

    • You will need to use an Import/export template to export all products or a set of products, change the Valuation method in the file and import it back in.
    • This can be done in Usage, Import/exports, Exports, select template ITF

Note: If there are items in stock, the system will create an adjustment whenever the Average cost is different from the STD cost, as expected. Otherwise you may want to issue out all items (i.e. creating a Misc. issue for all products) PRIOR to changing the Valuation method. Once the Valuation method is changed, you can create a Misc. receipt for all products.

    Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the reply. We are using Average costing method, however there is difference in costing which needs to be corrected.

I doubt this happen. If you change the stock valuation method, there is no records created in STOJOU, no automatic journal to define the posting process. So modifying the stock valuation while having stock, will require to have a manual entry journal to post the difference in the stock account.

But I think the question is not when chaging the valuation method but more when changing the AVC value. In that case, you can try to import misc. issue transactions to empty the stock (for the product-sites in error) and import misc. receipt transactions with the order price matching the correct AVC. The consequences on cost adjustements related to transactions that pre-date these imports have to be analyzed.

    Hi Shereef,

I have the same answer for one of my customers. The average price is wrong for a lot of products, and we have to use the value change function to correct prices.

But, we can't run one by one. Have you find a solution ? Maybe by calling CHGVAL action from a specific script ?

    Thank you for your answer.

    Regards,

    Nicolas.
