Clarification on Leads versus Person entries

Currently when we receive requests for information via webforms, we import these as Person profiles. Would these be better off (or more logically) imported as Leads instead?

In an effort to maximize our marketing efforts, what would be the best or recommended method for importing contact information for semi-qualified entries (could be a special offer email signup, brochure order or general request for information)?

This would likely affect our email marketing strategies as well as we [currently] export our opted-in PERSON records from Sage for each email and don't export Lead profiles. Our email service provider and Sage are not currently automatically integrated, thus manual exports for each mailing.

Thanks.

Leads tend to be used for people who you've never spoken to before (e.g. you've bought data, or done a marketing event somewhere and have a spreadsheet of people you've spoken to).

If the contact with the individual be only for a brochure and you might never speak to them again, it keeps your Person / Company area of the software 'cleaner'.

if the initial contact with them results in a warmer lead, then you would convert the lead and so in the process create the company / person / opportunity.

There is no right or wrong answer to this, but if you're finding the Person area is getting filled up with contacts you never speak to again. Then it might be worth looking at using Leads.
