Corrupted Simply Accounting Start Up, AnitVirus Quarantine Simply file, Simply Won't Start up

Hello,

First, I used Simply Accounting Pro 2011, I run it on my Macbook Pro in a Windows 8.1 Virtual machine by means of Parallel 10.

Yesterday, when starting up my Windows 8.1 in Parallel, my antivirus called Avast Free, found an infection in a Simply file and quarantine it. The origin file name is called Sage_SA resdlgsp.dll. The virus description it called it is Win32:Evo-gen (Susp).

When I click on my desktop icon to open up my Simply Accounting I get this error message.  " The program can't start because SAGE_SA_RESDLGSP.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

So I tried to reinstall and it won't, it hangs up in the uninstalling process, so I finally made sure I located my backed up file of Simply, saved it, and then tried to uninstall by going to Programs and Features and it gets to the screen saying it is Uninstalling, and the progress bar indicating the uninstalling process is blank with zero progress. There it will sit for over 30 minutes with no progress in uninstalling, so I stopped it.

So I tried using the installation CD that came with my copy of Simply Accounting and it will not work, it will not Auto-run properly to start up the process to install so I can get to the Uninstalling process.

So I am at a standstill as what to do with this problem. If you have any idea what I should do next, let me know.

    Hi Terry,

I had the same problem this morning, but I was probably luckier than you in that we have Simply Accounting on two computers so I was able to copy the file SAGE_SA_resdlgsp.dll (this is how it actually appears in the Simple Accounting folder) and move it back into the folder on my computer.

At first my several attempts to copy the file into the folder on my computer didn't work, which I didn't understand until I read your comment. I went into Avast and temporarily turned off the File System Shield and the file was successfully copied back into my Simply Accounting folder and the program started normally.

To turn off File System Shield, go to Active Protection in the left hand menu, then simply click on the ON button. This will turn it off. While it's off, click on the little gear or cog icon. This will take you to a new menu. Click on Exclusions. Click Add and then type in SAGE_SA_resdlgsp.dll and then click on the Add again. This should keep Avast from removing the file.

    ***INSTANT UPDATE***

Well, live in and learn: I just figured out that if I'd gone into my Avast Virus Chest, which is accessible at the bottom of the Avast home screen, I could have right-clicked on SAGE_SA_RESDLGSP.dll and selected "Restore and add to Exclusions", which was a whole lot easier than the rigamarole I went through!

Anyway, I hope this helps and you haven't completely uninstalled Simply.

    Hi Terry,

One more update: if you do restore the file from the virus chest. Make sure to go to Excusions and to check if the file has been added. You may need to manually add it as it wasn't done automatically when I tried it. In fact, my original, more complicated answer may be the best solution, but whatever works.

    Thanks David,

I tried as you suggested and sadly it did not work and thanks. Avast did restore this file to it original location, but still gives me the same message. When I try to repair it with the installation disk, it tells me I have to uninstall what I have installed.

Tried to uninstall and still won't let me get to that point, it just freezes up in the Uninstalling process.

Okay, I came across another posting in this community and it suggested that I reset my computer to earlier Restore Point before this incident happened. So I did and then this process failed to restore the date I set. It suggested that it was my Antivirus that caused this failure.

So I was about to check my Avast and make sure it is disable before I tried again, then I thought lets see what happens when I try to open up my Simply Accounting.

Well to my surprise Simply Accounting opened up and is now working, but my Avast is now corrupted, so I am now uninstalling it. Deciding later if I will reinstall Avast after what I just went through.

I am a computer tech and a little lost for words as to what happens.

Has anyone reported this file to Avast support, as a false positive?

Does this happen on a non-Mac system?

Randy, I did report this file to Avast as a false positive shortly after my last posting. As for a non-Mac System, someone else might have an answer to this one.
