Problem numeric pad doesn't work

SOLVED

Hello,

Each time i am typing a number in an invoice, it won't work, will then switch to cap locks and, won't let me type any numbers; can someone help me please? i have tried : cap lock + num lock and, still won't do anything. is this a glitch from the last updated version of Sage 50 CANADA?

There is no glitch in Sage 50 as most people using Sage 50 on a regular basis use a numeric key pad. I would suggest there is a hardware issue with your keyboard / numeric key pad which should be checked by a technician. Normally all that is required to keep the keep pad working is to be sure the NumLock is on.

    Hi Chantal

caps lock and num lock have différent functions. If you use the numbers above the letters, (1 to 0 in a row), neither will have effect.

However, using num lock will enable the  numeric key pad à the right side or your keyboard. Another press of num lock wil disable the numeric key pad as num lock is a toggle switch.

Maybe you don't have a separated numeric pad on the keyboard, then numbers avec on the letters. You'll get them with Fn (function). Better buy a usb numeric keypad if you have many numbers to enter!

    Regards,

    Danielle

Danielle, i know how keypads are working!!!  i have a problem with SAGE that turns on automatically the cap locks and, that won't let me type numbers...

this doesn't answer at all the matter here... i've called your customer service and, nobody, after 1h and 47 min was able to help me.. keep transferring and give me tickets number.  So, technical support is not so good , let me tell you that!

believe me, i've made sure NumLock is on!!! that was the first basic thing to check. My hardware works in every other program so, no, there is no need for a tech to check on that side. Other suggestions technical advise to give me? Never happened with anyone else?

I am just making a suggestion, I am not a techie but I do use Sage 50 daily. I also monitor the various forums both on Sage City and Social media and this problem has never been mentioned to the best of my knowledge. If this was a  technical glitch in the Sage 50 program you would hear complaints right across the country. Sage users are not very quiet when a problem arises.

Sage technical support is great, the problem is trying to get to talk with them. Did you try the live chat from within the program. Request a call back from a level 2 technician and see if that helps. They, with your permission, can connect to your computer and try various things to see if the cause can be determined. Obviously there is a cost to this service unless you have a current service plan.

You have not mentioned which version of Sage 50 CDN you are using? If it is an older program Sage may not still be supporting it. Also, if it is very old remember it was not tested on the newer operating systems and this may be another possibility. Again I am just suggesting things based on little to no knowledge of your set up.

    Chantal

I'm not a Sage tech, so it's not "my" customer service. I agree with you that customer service is horrible at first touch.

Was just trying to help you, I still don't understant what caps lock has to do with numbers.

    Good luck!

Chantel is your keyboard hard wired or wireless?  If it is wireless it could be the batteries that is causing you problems.  When my batteries get low they will do odd and unusual things.

Hello,it's wireless;changed batteriesand, tried another keyboard, brand new. Also reinstalled Sage Completely..  i am discouraged..

Sorry if i offended. It wasn't my intention. Thank you for your support

Thank you for your answer; i did talk over the phone with 2 different levels of techs, for 1h47. I was suppose to have a callback this morning to go up to next level but... still waiting.  My Sage version is the 2021 and, yes, paying for the support plan.  thanks again for your time.

Chantel, it may be a windows problem:  I found this, try this and see if it helps.  This is the original post: Windows 10 Number Lock Help. This has caused a lot of frustration for many people. I have now discovered the fix for this issue which was actually right underneath our noses. Navigate to: Change Mouse key settings > Mouse > Use mouse keys when Num Lock is on > off.

This is happening to us as well, but this does not solve the problem. Have you found a solution?

I thought it was only 2020 that did this, so I upgraded to 2021 and it still does this!  Trying to invoice my clients tonight and have to wait 5 minutes for it to reset each time.  There is definitely a glitch in sage.  I previously called and they told me to refresh my screen.  That does not work in 2021.  Anyone else have any solutions?

I have this same issue. It's not my keyboard, it's SAGE. I can switch to Excel and type numbers just fine using the keyboard or the numeric keypad. It stops working in SAGE until I reboot the program. Did you ever get a resolution from SAGE Customer Service?

  • 0 in reply to Emily Vickers

    Hello;

No resolution from Sage. I have talked to someone but, since it was working when i tried over the phone, no resolution was found. MY resolution is this one: once i type  something followed by '' :'' it will automatically put me off numeric pad and, i will have to press on ''shift'' to bring my keypad to work or, type in Excel doc will also do it. It is REALLY anoying but, i think nobody understood what my problem was. Still drives me crazy... if you find something, please post it here!

There is a resolution!  It has to do with the power management in the computer.  I spoke with Mauro A.  He had me go into the control panel, device manager, network adapter and realtec.  I then unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device".    THIS has worked for me.  I hope it is okay that I posted his email but he was patient and knowledgeable.

I have had this happen a few times.  It seem that I have hit the Tab button and the Caps Lock at the same time.  Try hitting them both a few times and turn on num lock.  it should work.

OMG this happens to me constantly... has been for past 4 years... Drives me insane. I'm in the middle of typing an long invoice description with capital letters and numbers and  then it stays on caps and will not let me type numbers. I have to shrink what i'm working on. open a blank email or work doc and just type keys from the number pad and then go back in to sage and they work. It's almost like it looses the connection in Sage. THIS IS THE ONLY PROGRAM I HAVE  THIS DREADFUL ISSUE WITH...

Angela, please read through this thread. There is a post from Angela Gault from 10 months ago.

There is a resolution!  It has to do with the power management in the computer.  I spoke with Mauro Azzano.  He had me go into the control panel, device manager, network adapter and realtec.  I then unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device".    THIS has worked for me.  I hope it is okay that I posted his email but he was patient and knowledgeable.

Give this a try. It seems to work.

I don't have Realtec in my network adaptor. and by the way this has happened at several of my clients computors  with Sage..... So it is not a computor issue.. this happened with my usb keyboard and mouse as well as my new wireless  keyboard and mouse and as I said on several peoples I consult with.... Extremely frustrating... I have emailed Mauro  and perhaps he can solve this issue.... I still feel this is a program issue in Sage and NO OTHER program on all of the computors I work with does this happen.  Fingers crossed Mauro can help me. and maybe Sage software writers can fix this issue

Angela, you are so right. I wrote to them 10 months ago and still nothing resolved. What i have found is it does that when i use the '' : colon'' key. Right after typing that key (: colon), it automatically put me in caps lock and, stop me from using my keypad. I then have to type in any other documents to bring back my keypad. really, really anoying. If you do find the solution, PLEASE, post it here!!!

    good luck!

Hello all, thank you for providing this feedback.

I've forwarded your comments onto the Sage 50 Support team for review and follow up and have also  found and included the account details for  (400xxxxxx69) and (400xxxxxx83).

We don't typically promote outreach with specific support analysts since they are tied to the queues, so I have gone ahead and removed any emails.

    Warm Regards,

Hi Chantal,  I have had the same issue.  It happens when I am typing in entries too quickly.  I must hit the TAB key and it messes up everything.  Close out the page you are on and restart your entry and you should be fine.

  • 0 in reply to LORI BRYAN-CHESTER

This is not from hitting the tab button. This happens if I use the shift key to type a capital letter ... then it  locks out the numbers and closing the page is not an option as I have already typed 1/2 a page of description in the invoice.. I would loose that. What I have to do is shrink sage then open a word document  and just type random numbers. Then pull up from the shrinking and when sage is back you can continue on.... it is extremely frustrating... This happens on at least  4 of my clients on their computors as well.
