ETI Validation Tool is now available for Sage Classic and Sage Premier!

During the mid-year reconciliation period, it came to our attention that some customers Employment Tax Incentive (ETI) company setups were incorrect resulting in incorrect amounts being utilised. A new system tool is now available for Sage Classic and Sage Premier customers to validate their ETI setups.

What is the function of the new tool?

The ETI Validation Tool validates the ETI periods, ETI sets as well as selected setup related issues for the current tax year. The tool will allow you to export the data, do corrections where required, and import the corrected information into the payroll to ensure that the year-end submission to SARS will be correct.

How do I download and install the ETI Validation tool?

The ETI Validation Tool is only available as a separate download for Sage Classic and Sage Premier users with systems currently on Release 5.5a.

Should you wish to download and install the ETI Validation Tool on Release 5.5a, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Ensure your payroll application is on the correct version

  • When you access your payroll application, the software version will display at the top-right of the application window
  • The ETI Validation Tool software is compatible with Release 5.5a

Step 2: Download the software

  • Access the Software Downloads page: http://payrollupdate.sagesouthafrica.co.za/totsol/  
  • Select the Patch File tab
  • Locate the RSA ETI Validation Tool for: Premier and Classic: R55a (December 2020) item. Review the description for more details
  • Click on Download to save the files to your computer (the download location will be determined by your browser settings)

Step 3: Extract the software files

  • It is recommended to make a full system backup before extracting the new software. Click here for more details
  • Ensure no other users are accessing the payroll application, when extracting the files
  • Locate the file RSAETIValid.ZIP file which was downloaded during Step 2
  • Double-click on the .ZIP file, which will open with the default program on your computer
  • Select to Extract All the files
  • Select the payroll application folder as extraction location.
  • When prompted to overwrite existing files in the folder say Yes
  • Close the application when the extraction is complete.

Step 4: Verify that files installed correctly

  • Access your payroll application
  • Access you RSA payroll company (must be in the 2020/2021 tax year)
  • From the Main Menu, select Utilities (to display the drop-down menu items
  • The new menu option ETI with the subhuman option ETI Validation will be available.

What should I do if my payroll system is not on Release 5.5a?

All payroll systems must be on Release 5.5a or 5.5b in January 2021. Should you need to update your payroll, find the 5.5a software, Install and Release Notes on the Sage VIP Customer Zone.

Your payroll system should be on either Release V5.4a, V5.4b or V54c to install V5.5a. If your payroll system is on a release prior to V5.4a, please complete a Webform for assistance from our Support Team

How do I run the validation tool and correct my ETI data?

A new menu option is now available: From the Main Menu>Utilities > ETI > ETI Validation

It is advisable to make a Backup before continuing with this option.

The ETI Validation Tool comprises of 3 steps:

  • Validation of your current ETI setup and employee ETI history
  • Users to extract and correct ETI issues identified (if any)
  • Importing and updating of employee ETI records if applicable
