The upcoming software update for Sage Business Cloud Payroll Professional is Release 5.9a.
Take note: The software is currently scheduled to be released towards the end of September 2022.
Q: Why will the software update only be available in the later part of September?
We are working closely with SARS and our business partners to support you with your Mid-year Submissions. In order for our updates to comply and be compatible with SARS e@syFile our payroll systems need to confirm compatibility with the final SARS e@syFile software release.
SARS recently confirmed that the SARS e@syFile Beta Software testing started on the 16th of August 2022 and is planned to conclude on the 15th of September 2022.
This means we will only be able to release after the close of the Beta phase from SARS.
Q: When will the SARS Interim EMP501 Reconciliation filing season start?
As per SARS communication and timelines on their website, the submission period for Mid-Year is from 19 September 2022 to 31 October 2022. (42 days)
Please consult with the SARS website for the latest submission dates and information.
Q: How will I know when the software becomes available?

Q: Do I need to wait for the update to be installed to do my submission?
Both the Sage and SARS software will require to be updated for the IRP5 file import changes and validations to be compatible.
This should however not hold you back from performing your normal preparation work for the Mid-year Submission, and we would encourage you to do so, to prevent any unnecessary delays. As with any new software release, the update should only be installed in a new pay period, before you have paid your employees and printed reports and payslips for the current processing period.
Q: What changes are included in the update?
This update will include the following:
- New Sage branding changes
- System alignment with the 2022/2023 South African Revenue Service (SARS) Business Requirement Specification.
- Updated Long Service Awards IRP5 codes for RSA, associated changes and report
- Changes to Fixed Rate Directives and Lumpsums
- Tax files for Lesotho, Malawi and Zimbabwe (previously released)
- New Africa Reports for Malawi (PAYE Report) and Nigeria (LIRS Monthly PAYE Schedule)
- Existing Report and Bank file updates
- New Report Generator code and Issue resolved
