Please may you make sure that you have following setting activated on your setup > customer > control > statements, then “always print in balance forward format” must be selected.

What would be the point of running open item accounts if the statements are set to print in balance forward format?

The option works in conjunction with the Print Open Item Customers by Date . The option to  “always print in balance forward format” will allow the dates to be in order and the only difference is that you will get a Balance forward amount running at the top from the previous period/ year.

Which is not going to work if they want customers to be able to see prior year transactions as opposed to just a balance, We have been in touch with the technical support team who have escalated it to development to take a look at for us.

Good day,

I've had the exact same problem as Bev. How was this finally resolved? I've played around with printing in Balance Forward mode & it sorts out into date format but once I roll over into the new year the accounts lump the outstanding invoices into Balance Forward & if I remove the tick it once again sorts by Reference No. instead of date. Ticking the 'Print Ooen item Customers by date' doesn't work either.
