Expenses

SUGGESTED

I enter expenses using standard description, quantity and price which shows as slip value on my invoice. Is there a way to show more detail so client sees the quantity? Below is a simple example of filing 2 LLC annual reports at a cost of $520.00 each to MA Secretary of State. Obviously I can do the math but it can be confusing to the client when reading the bill. The only solution I have found thusfar is to put (x2) in the description; I didn't know if there was a way to format to show quantity on the bill. Thanks.

Right now it shows as:

                                                                            Price

Date     Fling Fee w/Secretary of State              $520.00

                                                                        _________

            Total Costs                                            $1040.00

Yes you need to modify the bill layout. It would be in the expenses section adding the fields. It’s not difficult if you know what you are doing but if you have never edited a layout it can be confusing. It’s hard to explain but I could assist. It would be billable time. It looks like your bill layout is using the Price field for the expense, not the Slip Value as you may think.  The vocabulary is: Quantity x Price = Charges.

If you replace Price field with Charges field in the Expense section of your bill layout, then you would get the $1,040.00 to the right of the Description AND as the total. Then you could elaborate in the description that it was two at $520.

You can also add both Quantity and Price to the layout, but it will do it for ALL of your expenses. Most folks don't want that, but your mileage may vary. :-)
