TIMESLIPS 2013 ATTORNEY RATES

I have recently taken over billing for a small law firm. They are running Timeslips Version 2013.  Can anyone tell me in the newest version of Timeslips, is it easier to track attorney rates when entering time? We have attorneys that bill different rates depending on the client. And, of course, several attorneys work on the same case, and until I'm fully familiar with who opened the file, I'm really not sure who's in the number 1 billing position. I recently billed the wrong rate to a client b/c I wasn't aware who opened the file...(if that makes sense). We desperately need to update, I'm just wondering if sooner is better than later.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello  , and welcome to the Sage Community Hub. Rates and rate rules are a tricky thing. The good part about them is that you can set rate rules to choose the correct rate when a particular timekeeper works on a client, and those rules can be quite complex. The bad part is that those rules can be quite complex, and confusing.

Stepping in to run a database where the rates were set up by someone else can add even more complexity to how the rates work.

I find a lot of my users just follow the lead of the previous person, and never step back to look at how they are doing rates, and whether the rules are optimized.

The way the rate rules work has not really changed since v2013, so upgrading will not help you with that problem.

I think the firm would be far better served by doing and overview of how the rates should work and then creating tight rate rules that hit those rates reliably.
