correcting accumulated depreciation

Over the course of a few years, several individuals have worked on our Sage FAS system.  Apparently, some of the accumulated depreciation has become skewed by a few cents here and there.  Is there an easy way to adjust accumulated depreciation?

    Hello Philip,

The answer to this question is Yes, and No, and Maybe since the answer varies depending on a number of elements in your company and assets. I just cannot say “do this” without knowing a good bit more about your company data.

It all starts with looking at the Depreciation Adjustment report which shows all asset with beginning information on them and whether they are over or under depreciated. Depending on what is found there, there is the option of setting up an adjustment which, after re-running depreciation which can be an interesting process, if you are talking about asset which is current beyond their life.

For Adjustments there is the Immediate adjustment or the Postrecovery adjustment neither of which I could recommend without knowing what is on the Depreciation Adjustment report.

The safest course is the process laid out in the How to fully depreciate an under depreciated asset article.
