Pay method

I have just added my first new employee since upgrading to Sage 50 2024.  It said that one I selected a pay method (hourly, salary, etc.) that it could not be changed.  We sometimes promote an employee from a non-exempt to an exempt position and change them from hourly to salary.  I certainly don't want to have to give them a new employee number if that happens.  Why is this changed?

Obviously, this is a change that we do not like.  Is it possible to make it so that employees can be changed without having to give them a new employee number?   You are now forcing us to do more work and to have their raise history separated, etc.  I don't see any benefit to this restriction; only multiple downsides.

Good morning, Carole... I thought about your "employee number" situation and came up with a solution that may help. You can change the Employee Number (Employee ID) on an existing record, so I recommend that you change the Employee Number on the old record (or add an identifier to the Employee Number like a letter) and then use the same Employee Number in the new record. You have to go to "Maintain" and select "Employee/Sales Rep" and bring up the Employee Record you want to change and click on "Change ID" at the top of the record:

Here are the steps from our client knowledgebase: How do I change an employee name or ID? (sage.com)

Once you change the Employee Number on the old record you can use that same employee number in the new record. I hope this helps with your issue with using the same Employee number when switching from Hourly to Salary.
