Remote data access kicks users out randomly

Hello,

In our environment, Sage 50c has been kicking my users off randomly. This happens multiple times per day with no warning. In most cases, users can get right back in and it appears that their session picks up without issue. However, the more these happen, the more likely it is that a catastrophic failure will occur  and the remote data has to be salvaged from a backup. This happens about every month, or so.

Support is telling me that this may be a connectivity issue, but I do not see how. All my other apps, including Google Workspace and other cloud based apps, do not have this issue. Our internet connectivity is 1GB, synchronous, and our file size is moderate, about 140mb.

Has anyone else had this issue? What did you do to fix it, if anything? Admittedly, we are very close to moving off Sage after using the program for 20 years. This is hurting our business and driving my users insane.

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out. Believe I found your account ending 400xxxxx546 and have asked the Sage 50 US support team to follow up with you regarding ongoing issues connecting to RDA. Will update you with any news.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

Thank you. This has been a continuing issue and we have had a difficult time with support in receiving a solution. At this point we are looking for a way to determine what is happening. Is it the program or our network? If it's our network, how do we find out what is going on?

I have had the same problem on a some of my companies for quit a few years.  None of them were on remote data access.  I have talked to support several times about it and no one could ever solve the problem.  The crashes are totally random.  It can happen while you are in the middle of a post or it can happen when it is just sitting there inactive.  Once it starts doing this the problem never goes away.  The only thing I can say is a commonality is that I have only had it happen on companies that have been backed up & the backup transferred online and restored.  I've had some I have done that way for years and never had the problem on those companies, but I have never had the problem on a company that it wasn't done on.  It would seem either something glitches in the backup/restore process or something glitches during the transfer.  dunno....  The only good thing I can say is that the crashes have never corrupted data.

It appears that Sage support has given up on my issue. After speaking with three different technicians, their remaining thought is to abandon RDA and go client/server with Remote Desktop Connection to a server serving as the only host of our company data. So, in essence, using the program as it was designed to run in 2005, or so. Unacceptable. Seriously, what are we paying for?

I can't say I'm surprised. I mean we are talking about a company who's first solution is to disable UAC when Sage acts up.

  • Hi Stephen,
