Sage 100 ERP/MAS 90 v4.40 and Employee Self Service

We currently use MAS 90 v4.40 for payroll.  We need to provide an employee self-service portal to provide, at the very least, read-only access for our employees to view check history.  Our VAR has mentioned that we need Sage HRMS to do this.  We are interested in investigating all alternatives including developing our own in-house web interface.  How are other companies doing this?
