Changing SQL password during current Premium install

SOLVED

Hi...

Never done this before, and Sage does not support this, has anyone changed a SQL sa password while Premium installed and running?  I'm sure the database connection would disconnect, but it sounds like we would need to install the program again as the Premium install asks for the SQL password.  I'm thinking the Crystal Reports wouldn't work either as that is using the SQL connection previous.

Has anyone ever done this?  They're forcing me to change the password...

Thank you...

    Hi B,

You should be working with your Reseller on this as they have the familiarity and expertise to answer these questions. That being said, when you install Sage 100 Premium it creates 2 users in SQL: MAS_USER and MAS_REPORTS. There is a tool called the SQL Settings Utility (or something like that) that allows you to change the passwords for these 2 users, and you need the sa (or similar login) password in order to do that. However I don't think the sa password itself is embedded anywhere in Sage. I could be wrong, of course. Not sure I've ever heard of anyone who has had to change that before. Crystal Reports use the MAS_REPORTS login, so they should still work until and unless that password changes.

Thank you rclowe... I appreciate the time.  Actually, I am a reseller, but my expertise is not SQL... Sage couldn't help much and thought this shouldn't be too hard.  Where do I find the MAS_USER and MAS_REPORTS users to edit?  Or do I have to use that utility?  But where are those two users stored?  What file?  That could help the SQL admin there to push this along.

    Thanks again.

I found the utility in the Sage Programs and that lets you change the passwords.  That is great.  Thanks so much.

You're well on your way to becoming an SQL expert :-)

I think there's a way to mark this post as being answered, although I'm not sure exactly how to do it.

The "sa" password is used during the initial install to create the databases and SQL logins (MAS_Reports / MAS_User).  After that, the only time you need the "sa" password is for updating these passwords (using the Sage tool), or migrating data.

Never change the MAS_* user passwords directly in SQL... always use the Sage tool for this.
