Is there any way to delete an active warehouse?

Thank you for your help. I am current on my sage subscription (that's ALL I can pay for at this time). Business is so bad, I can do the job costs by hand, I rent material, so I do not have purchases on every show.. So all I really need to know is what merchandise I used so I can get an inventory for the next year, and I get that from a stock status report before I run invoices. I just want to get all those old warehouse out, will try BL method and let you know.

I am using 4.2 right now, trying to get everything set before I ugrade to 4.4. OK so i went into inventory>period end, and there is no place to purge, I can remove transaction detail but the date is set and cannot be changed. So i told it to remove transaction det\ails as of the date on the screen, but afterwards i go back to remove a warehouse and it saysd the same thing "cannot remove an active warehouse.

Like I said, you need to set your IM module date BEFORE you go into this screen.  If you left the current date on the screen, then you just purged all your history.

Yes i understand. Just using a test company. after I purge, it still says cannot delete active warehouse.

I wonder if you can do this ... try in a test company first.  Make a copy of the IM5 file, then reintialize it.  Then try to delete the warehouse information. Once that completes, rename the blank IM5 file and put the original one back.

If the warehouses are still current, you may have open SO's or PO's from way back.

Jonathan - if you restored the files, you probably just brought in a lot of now invalid records for those warehouses you deleted.  You may find new problems in the future.  When that happens, remember this moment.

I know this thread is very old, and the issue has been beaten to death but I have one last question. I want to try the suggestion made by Jonathansuliv to reinit IM5 and IM2, delete the warehouses, then restore IM5 and IM2. Yet Sage always says not to try anything like this "or bad things will happen" and Steve echoes those words: I may leave invalid records in IM5 for the warehouses just deleted... with the dire prediction "You may find new problems in the future."

The warehouse codes I want to delete have had no activity since 2004, yet they are still considered “active” so I can't delete the warehouse codes. I know FOR SURE there are no active SOs or POs for these warehouse codes. So should I bother using DFDM (or Access/VI) to delete the related records from IM2 and IM5 FIRST, hoping the system would then allow me to delete the warehouse codes in a politically correct manner? Any other records I should remove before attempting to delete the warehouse codes?

In the end, I guess my real question is this: I know you don't like it Sage, but WHAT bad things will happen? WHAT new problems might I be creating? How terrible would it be to leave invalid records where I don’t want history anyway? After all, I’m trying to get RID of this information, not keep it!

    Thanks!

I too would like to inquire about removing "Unwanted Warehouses".  First question - are there future plans to address this extreme inefficiency of MAS90/100 IM management system.  Do they plan on at least adding an Active Flag of some sort to warehouse file and appling to the GUI to at least have the option of showing "Active warehouses" only???

    (Running version 4.5)
Other question -  To work around this huge issue I have done the following:
    -  I exported my my IM_ItemWarehouse records and then cleaned up unwanted warehouses.
    -  I then re-initialized the IM_ItemWarehouse file.
    -  Next I created an Import VI Job to re-import my clean IM_ItemWarehouse text file.  (all successful thus far)
    -  Next I rebuilt the SO, IM and PO Sort files and said "Yes" to recalculated quantities.  (problem occurs)

SO rebuilt successfully. IM rebuilt successfully.  PO errorred on rebuild. Question - on the PO ReCalculated Quantity on order in IM_ItemWarehouse file, what PO file/tables is the utility pulling from???  (I believe the error was generate because I had 15 records in the PO_Detal file from a removed warehouse record that no longer existed in the newly updated IM_ItemWarehouse file)

Any direction or helpful feedback would be great for this issue.  Thank you much...  RG

Be glad to give you some direction. Put the records back!  Nothing else will fix it.

Well, that was helpful (not). I of course did this in a test company. How about any answers on possible logic adjustments in this area?
