Sales Kits not exploding on order imports

We are testing sales kits and placed an order originating from our e-commerce site. The first batch of orders failed because the explode kit items field was set to 'Never'. I thought this was my issue, but the kits still have not exploded after altering the items and changing the explode kit item field from 'Never' to 'Always'. If I manually add a kit line item to the orders they explode, but they did not explode when imported in bulk. 

Could there have been a delay in the setting change after I switched the explode kit items field? I figured the change would have been instantaneous. 

Is the import causing the kits not to explode? A bulk of my Sage experience is on Sage 300 and not Sage 100. In Sage 300, the bulk imports did not have any impact on the kit explosion.
