Big Louie: Has there been anything new on ordering items in kits and then subsequently exploding the kit into components on receipt when serial numbers are not involved and the kit ordering is simply a manner of streamlining the order for purchasing and still allowing warehousing and production the ability to manage and track the components after receipt since the items are ordered together but need to be managed separately due to qa issues or other frequent exceptions. Inventory Kits are also known as Sales Kits. Their only functionality is through Sales Order, no function through Purchase Order. Meaning you can not enter a PO for a Kit and Receive the individual exploded components.

I understand your point. I am probably using the term loosely or speaking the clients lingo. But ultimately I am thinking that this might be a situation where I am ordering an item that has a bill of materials as a parent item and then exploding it like a disassembly entry to the components, but in an automated fashion since everyone wants to track and manage inventory by the components. I was just checking to see if anyone had tried such a thing.

PO does not work that way with kits or BOMs, you will need a custom program written.
