Where to save Sage 50 Payroll programs

SUGGESTED

We run two separate payrolls (each for a different company) and at present the program is saved on two laptops - so neither individual has access to the other payroll.  This is just not working for us.

We use Azure as a Cloud service, and our IT person advised that only Sage50 Accounts works via Azure - but that at some point Sage50 Payroll will be updated to allow this.  Any clues as to when this might be happening please?  Or if there is an alternative to saving on laptops please can someone advise?

Thank you

    Hi Aline,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

Sage 50 Payroll isn't currently supported with Cloud Servers or in terminal server environments, unfortunately we can't say if or when it will be but the situation is reviewed regularly so the position may yet change.

Your IT can attempt to run the software via Azure but if any environmental issues were encountered then Sage Technical Support would not be able to offer help and advice related to that.

It is possible to set up both Payrolls on a server, and again this could be set up by your IT, it would just be a matter of making sure both laptops can access the server where the data is stored. The other alternative would be to restore backups between the two set ups to be able to work both payrolls on both laptops.

This is very much a concern for us - we have a hard stop for location-based software for summer 2023 so if Sage isn't going to move Payroll to the Cloud then we will have to move providers.

I can't understand the lack of movement on this and I don't really want to go through the hassle of changing software but I don't have a choice.

    Hi Joanne

At least I am not the only one!  Thank you.

For info, we no longer own a server at all so you can see why it is a problem for us.

    Hi Aline and Joanne,

    Thanks for your replies.

I wondered if you'd considered Sage Business Cloud Payroll as a solution to this, possibly moving all of the Payroll into the cloud? You can read more about Sage Business Cloud Payroll here >

In the mean time, I would also encourage you to share this on the ides board where other Sage 50 Payroll customers can vote for change. Open the Ideas Board.

Thanks for the response - I've put a post in the Ideas Board.

Business Cloud is limited to 100 employees so that's not an option for us.

    Hi Andy

I have just been looking at this again because being unable to access the other payroll is really becoming a problem for us.

According to a later answer (below), Sage Business Cloud Payroll is a possible solution.

As far as I can see, we already have that but we still cannot find a solution to the two laptop problem.

Is there anyone I can talk this through with please?  We need some help!

    Thanks

    Aline

    Hi Aline,

It sounds like the solution you are looking for is Sage Business Cloud Payroll. It's an entirely cloud based solution, meaning that you can run Payroll for as many companies as you like from any device that you can access the internet.

You don't need to install any software, you simply sign up online and access Payroll via your web browser. With this option you would simply log in and out of the required companies as often as you need to, without the need for multiple laptops.

If you believe you do already have an account with us for Sage Business Cloud - you can contact our technical support team here. If necessary, they can pop you through to another department to help discuss the right solution for your business needs.

    Best Regards,
