Sage Drive Memo / Attachments workaround

As Sage don't seem interested in implementing synchronisation of attachments at remote sites, I've gone away and found a work around. It does require a bit of confidence using Windows 10 command line, but if you're as old as I am, you'll have cut your teeth on DOS, so it'll be a welcome blast from the past!

I'm using MS OneDrive, but I don't see why this wouldn't work with DropBox, Google Drive or any other oneline storage solution that can be accessed via Windows Explorer.

  1. On the main site, create a hardlink (MKLINK /J) within your OneDrive tree, pointing to the ATTACHMENTS folder in Sage. Instructions on using MKLINK to create symobolic links are here https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-take-advantage-of-symbolic-links-in-window-10/. I assume that a soft link would work, but I've only tried the hard link.
  2. The hardlink will appear as a subfolder of your OneDrive tree. you can then share this with other users on the remote sites
  3. On the remote sites. Accept the share invitation and click add to my OneDrive. The attachments will appear in the remote users' OneDrive trees.
  4. Still on the remote sites, delete the attachments subfolder in the Sage company data folder.
  5. Then create, in the Sage company data a hardlink, called ATTACHMENTS, pointing at the OneDrive folder created in 3.

This will synchronise the attachments between main and remote sites. You will be able to go into memo on supplier, customer, nominal etc records in Sage, on the remote sites and see the attachments.

I only set this up yesterday, but so far it's working well, with no problems.

  • I have updated my Sage account today and now when I click on the invoice lines it stays blue and won't allow me to highlight more than one invoice at a time. Also when I do my bank reconciliation I can't highlight more than one line at a time? I think this is probably linked.

  • If by "cloud" you mean Sage Drive, then yes, this is exactly what the above does. I suggest trying it with your demo company first, if you've never done somthing like this before.

  • Looks difficult, but willing to give this a try if I helps with our issue. We use the cloud and would like to save invoices onto the suppliers accounts and for all to see,  but we cannot do this at the moment and does not look like Sage is interested to implement. Would we be able to follow the above and attach the invoices into each suppliers with your method?
