Since version 21 I have continually contact support and the software writers about the question I raised with you. Personally the new read Only user defeats the object in that many businesses have several users on the software at the same time and all in different departments so user access for read only is definitely need but not in the way you have done it.
I have been campaigning for the access rights area to offer “No Access”, “Full Access” or Read only. The reason is every business I have worked and installed Sage 50 in have this need. In order for a production company to fully utilise the application in all areas we have needed to this.
