Bank Reconciliation

I am new to this forum so hopefully I have done this correctly.  I am trying to do a bank reconciliation for the first month of a new year.  The opening balance is from many years of deposits.  All outstanding cheques and withdrawals were cleared in the previous month (which was the last month of the previous year-end) -  I am trying to follow the instructions for first reconciliation, but when I put in my starting balance and end balance and then go to "add Prior" - and I say okay (because there are no outstanding withdrawals)  then on the next window I have a discrepancy which is the amount of my opening balance.? I am not sure what I am doing wrong??  I am desperate for help as I have to have this set of books completed this weekend.  Thanks in advance for help.

  • The Start and End dates, Opening and End Balances are from your bank statement not

    from many years of deposits

If you have entered them correctly from the statement you are trying to reconcile and you still have a discrepancy, then you or another bookkeeper likely have not completed and posted all adjusting entries from the previous manual bank rec(s).  The only other option I can think of right now is that there are some transactions from the period(s) that have not shown up on the bank statement yet and you have not entered them as Prior Outstanding Transactions..
