Pay period changes

Our pay period had a serious gap and I am trying to close this gap by moving the pay periods up.  On Feb.13, I intend to pay from Jan 19-Feb 1 on one paycheque and Feb2 - Feb 8 on a second paycheque (it is important to everyone that the cheques come separate).  I am not changing the pay dates but don't know how to pay for the extra week on a second cheque without causing an error with taxes.  Please help!

    This should work as far as processing the pay. Deductions may vary because the amounts paid on each cheque are very different. You are very wise to not create an extra pay period as that really can cause havoc with deductions.

    Is this really a gap in the pay or was the pay initially set up to hold back a pay period. The hold back is not uncommon and it gives the pay processor a chance to get everything completed before cutting the cheques. Just a thought.
