backup file size doubling & conflicting files in .SAJ folder

SOLVED

Hi,

I have been  using  version 2017 accounting 50 . I recently installed version 2019 accounting 50 and converted the data. I found when I backup my computer at closing, the size of the cabinet file is doubling, but I only entered 80 entries.I am wondering if it will continue increasing.  And also I noticed under the .SAJ folder some docs appears repeat two or three lines, and one of them shows (conflicted copy). Such as below:

ib_buffer_pool

ib-buff_pool (Lisa's conflicted copy XXX)

ib-logfile1

ib-logfile1(Lisa's conflicted copy XXX)

ib-logfile1(Lisa's conflicted copy XXX)

ibdata1

ibdata1(Lisa's conflicted copy XXX)

Please help me to find out what problem is.

Thank you

Lisa

What is the path to your company data file?  You can find this under File, Properties.

It sounds like you might be using the file directly from a DropBox or OneDrive location.  This should not be done.

Also, look at the backup location under Setup, Settings, Company, Backup and see if you have been sending the backup to the *.saj folder.  If you are , please change it and check if any *.cab files are in the *.saj folder.

    SUGGESTED

Using you file directly from the DropBox is not supported.  As you found the DropBox system does not know how to track the data properly so it duplicates it as it is being used.  I've never manually recovered a file that was used in a DropBox but my first thought would be to copy

I personally would not be backing up directly to the DropBox either.  I would back up to my hard drive, then copy the back up file to the DropBox under the scenario I believe you are running.

Without going through a data repair process, I would try copying the *.sai file and *.saj folder to your hard drive to a temporary location like c:\Temp.  Then create a location like c:\Sage50Data on your C: drive.  Open the file in Sage 50 from the Temp location and select File, Save As and save the file in the c:\Sage50Data folder.

Then while the file is open and your File, Properties indicates you are using the file in the Sage50Data location, check the *.saj folder in Sage50Data to see if the ib* files are duplicated still.  I believe they will still be there. If they are, you may should be able to move the duplicated files that indicate "Lisa's conflicted copy....." to another location temporarily.

Once the duplicated files are removed and the file structure looks more like Article 12444 under Method X (with some other text or log files, process.pid, etc.), you should be able to close the file and open it again without error.  When you backup to your hard drive now, you should get a reasonable size backup of about 15-20 meg (based only on the 80 entries you said you added) depending on your original file size and how many years you used it before upgrading.

Because you just upgraded, you may be able to get Sage Tech support to help you out but 2019 went end of life back in March so they may not support it anymore.  I can' say for sure because I don't work for Sage.  If you are unsure about doing this then you should be talking with a consultant to help you out.

If the future, work on your hard drive, then copy the backups to DropBox.
