Sage Account breach

I went to renew our Sage 50 software. I logged onto the website, and noticed something looked out of place. I couldn't access some things and it said to contact ____ at our company. However, there was never a person by that name at our company. I called Sage and was told there were THREE people listed as contacts, and I was NOT the primary contact. We are a small organization and actually do not even have three staff.  The agent gave me an email address, and I said that's an email address (extension was bigpond.net.au) in Australia.  I lodged a complaint since I believe a breach has occurred in my account. I purchased the software, and now I'm told there's other people, from Australia nonetheless who control it. They couldn't confirm information as I was not the primary contact. Sage has said they're going to call me back, but my complaint is more than just wrong names. My account was breached. If I didn't have to renew, I still would not know. Depending on the outcome, I may be switching accounting software...

And I urge people to verify their account information is correct.

  • Hi Ginny,

Thank you for reaching out. Very concerning indeed and sorry to hear of this incident. I managed to find the account in your name ending 400xxxxx67 and confirm that you are a contact on the account with the email tied to your Sage City profile here. Your contact record also has the only Customer Portal login access which is good. I took a look at the transactions and see that you are the contact on the online purchase invoice in 2019, and payer in 2020 and 2021.

Therefore, I've set you as the primary contact on the account and have emailed you from the Customer Portal team to confirm this via the Authorization form which we will then attach to the account. The processing of this form will give you an opportunity to clean up the extra contacts listed as well. I'll also have our IT review how this primary contact change might have occurred and when. We can follow up further once we know how the change occurred. In the meantime, I can assure you that this is a rare case.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi
