Sage/Simply allows to keep two years open - means you can enter transactions in current year as well

previous year. Please check if it is not check marked to prevent somebody to enter transactions before some date e.g. Dec31 2013 (Do not allow transactions dated before ..... could be found in Settings, and then System)

Transactions are allowed in the current fiscal year and the immediate past fiscal year. To do this all you have to do is make your entry and show the date you want. There is one caution and that is if your immediate past year has already been sent to the account or the filing has been completed with CRA, you should not be making entries in that year unless your accountant has advised accordingly. Year end adjusting entries from the accountant are reasonable to enter.
