Payroll Journal not Working on a Client File moved to my Office

SUGGESTED

Using Accountant's Edition version 2021

I have never had this happen before.  I set this file up a number of years ago (payroll was working then) then the client took it for about 4 or 5 years now I have it back but the payroll journals are not working.  Any ideas on where to look.  I have tried a number of things like checking for updates - upgrading products etc.  Nothing seems to work.  There was one funny issue - I was doing December payroll and it stated it was being completed in a prior year - but this should not have been rolled forward. in 2021 (Fiscal year end May); however I did a "test" in January (and yes it did not give me the confirmation question about rolling to a new calendar year) in January but it still did not have deductions automatically calculated .  Really don't want to use CRA's web site when I use the simply payroll all the time.  Any ideas / suggestions?

Based on what you are saying, I will assume "not working" really means that you can open it and select an employee but there are no calculations.

The best thing to check now is what is the latest transaction date.  If it is January 2021 or later, then someone has started the new Calendar year and the program will no longer calculate payroll in the current year by design.  I would also assume this was done by moving the session date to the new calendar year.

You are stuck with the PDOC until January.

I did a "test" cheque for January as well and it did not have the deductions either and in all cases neither the " calculate taxes manually" nor the "enter taxes manually" icons are able to be activated - they are both greyed out.  This was the case in both 2020 and my test for 2021.  I did the general checks - check data integrity - advanced data check etc.  Ensured the history on all subs were completed etc.  Checked to make sure we were still in the right fiscal year - to May 2021.  Made sure I had the most up to date version.  I am totally stumped - I have been using Sage since it was Bedford (yes the stone age) and have never had any issues with any of my clients bringing in backups - even very old versions I just roll to 2015 and then to current year.  Any suggestions

It appears you have ignored this statement.  I know it was not phrased as a question but did you check?  What were the results?  If the Latest Transaction date is in 2021, are the entries payroll or General Journal entries, or are they A/P or A/R or other module entries.

Do you get an option to Start a New Calendar year under Maintenance, Start New Year?

It still looks like to me someone started the new calendar year but I don't know why your icons are greyed out doing a 2021 payroll cheque, unless your Payroll ID is not active for some reason.

Testing in 2020.2, I do not have greyed out icons under your described scenario.

As stated I did address "the best thing to check now is what is the latest transaction date.  If it is January 2021 or later, then someone has started the new Calendar year and the program will no longer calculate payroll in the current year by design" in the fact that I did a "test" for Jan 2020 not in the form of an answer to your question - but by virtual of the trial January 2021 payroll attempt.  Yes it appears she rolled forward to 2021 - and I could have managed just doing Dec payroll then had the deductions auto calculated in 2021 - however that is not the case.

And yes I did confirm that I have the payroll service plan on this account as well.

Sorry, I'm not sure what else to try.  It looks like no one else has any ideas but if they do, hopefully they will post something.  Otherwise, you may have to call Tech Support.
