Fuel Surcharge as a percent

Is there a way to have the system calculate based on the subtotal, as certain percent.  I am doing this manually now.

    Hi,

Do you mean something that would apply to an item code or particular vendor and calculate like a Sales Tax?

or an across the board rate charged against the whole invoice, that doesn't need to be to a separate G/L, I would create a recurring transaction, and sort of do it manually as well, using an item code for Surcharge, and make the price equal to the percentage.   i.e. 6.49% surcharge on subtotal $123.45 code as qty 123.45  price $0.0649.

It's not completely automatic - you would still have to put in the subtotal manually, but at least you don't have to get out a calculator.

I am needing to add a fuel/enviro surcharge on every invoice we produce.  It is 3.5%, and i and entering manually, regardless of using a calculator.  Just want to get it done without having that extra step.

Surcharges are not an 'out of the box' feature of Sage 50 Canadian, unfortunately.  Other small business accounting software may have these features, (surcharges and multiple subtotals), and you can use the 'submit an idea' link in the Sage 50 help to suggest to Sage that they make them available as well.

It might be possible to set up a Sales Tax that would apply to the specific Service or Inventory Items that you want to charge a surtax for, that your actual Sales Tax applies to, and then periodically (i.e. monthly) transfer the G/L account balance to Sales with a journal entry.  I would test this very carefully in the Sample Company before using it with real data.

Third-party add-ons for Sage 50 have industry-specific features like surcharges, etc, along with other benefits that may help your business more than the cost hurts.  I know almost nothing about your specific needs, however as an example of what's available:
