Changes to directive processing

Following the release of the latest Business Requirement Specification (BRS) from SARS, the way tax directives are reported on, is changing.

We have implemented the necessary changes to allow you to load employee tax directives correctly. Unfortunately, any directives you already entered, will need to be re-entered as there is additional detail required and we cannot provide this detail on your behalf.

Please see the screen below along with some information on how to complete each field:
  • Directive number: This is the normal reference number that is obtained from SARS when applying for a tax directive.
  • Issue date: This is the date that the tax directive was generated. It should reflect alongside the reference number.
  • Directive Income Source Code: This is the IRP5 code that is relevant to the tax directive. The only IRP5 codes that may be entered here are - 3608/3658, 3614/3664, 3901/3951, 3902/3952, 3903/3953, 3904/3954, 3905/3955, 3907/3957, 3908, 3909, 3915, 3920, 3921, 3922, 3923, 3924 3707/3757, 3718/3768, 3719/3769, 3720/3770, 3721/3771, 3723/3773)
  • Directive Income Amount: This is the actual earning amount.

Important note – the amount needs to be processed manually on the payslip as well. The amount does not pull through to the payslip automatically from the employee’s detail.

If you have any employees that have tax statuses based on tax directives like ‘Directive %’, their directive number will also need to be re-entered. SARS will no longer validate these numbers as they will be focusing on lump sum directives going forward. We used to have a link between the tax status and the old format of tax directives, but after the change from SARS, we had to remove this link and, unfortunately, you’ll have to re-enter the reference number to ensure that the correct information is linked to the relevant piece of the employees’ information. This field, however, will only be used for reference purposes in future.
