Evolution performance

SOLVED

Greetings,

Evo version 7.20 and soon moving to 10.1

We are large Tissue and Hygiene manufacturing company in East Africa, based out of in Nairobi - Kenya.

Currently at 65 and moving to 75 users and with 50+GB of database (16yr old db), my Evolution users face a lot of performance challenges.

Biggest performance hits are at:

1) BOM/Manufacturing module - A user could easily take 20min per manufacture, from navigating to the transactions window, to editing BOM to actual MF process.

2) Overall Inventory module - Adding new item could take 40min. Through observation, I have realized due to multiple warehouse selection and 600+ Price lists.. new item creation takes really long. Sales/Purchase orders takes also a lot of time when searching for a customer and items..

My local partner has tried assisting on these issues but there is no much luck either.

The SQL Server 2012 Ent, is sitting on 8 core processors with 128GB of RAM.

I know there is no direct solution to this but let's start a dialogue to understand what can be done to start improving the system.

Regards,

Irfaan

    Good Afternoon

Yes, I see now where your problem is. Sorry about providing the wrong advise.

Going forward: Evolution disregards all Description record names when entering Filter Starts values, even if ensuring the Description column is the first column on the grid.

An apparently it seems this is unfortunately the way Evolution works.

In that case, please do the following:

Please log a new query with Evolution Support in which you suggest a new product enhancement to enable the Filter Starts to no exclusively only work on item codes, but also on Descriptions.

Click this link to log the new query:

    https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/4c5023eeaff24b05839f55753b05c465

But please also confirm: After implementing Filter Starts as per my suggestion, did it resolved your query of slow Manufacturing processing?

    Kind Regards

    Hi Bennie,

That is a pity as it is a great way to filter through the data for export. I use the Warehouse enquiry but it is much slower as there is no filter capabilities.

The filter strategy has improved our system drastically. We sit with over 60 000 products so the delay in loading all the products into memory was massive.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Hi there

Yes, I know.... It's s really pity that we can't filter on anything BUT item code alone.

However, I'll discuss this with our Evolution Development team on Friday and get back to you.

By the way: what is your name?

    And sorry for asking again:

Are both issues you logged (see below) highly improved by activating Filter Starts?

Even the total time if takes to actually process a new MF process from the second the Process button is clicked?

    1) BOM/Manufacturing module - A user could easily take 20min per manufacture, from navigating to the transactions window, to editing BOM to actual MF process.

    2) Overall Inventory module - Adding new item could take 40min. Through observation, I have realized due to multiple warehouse selection and 600+ Price lists.. new item creation takes really long. Sales/Purchase orders takes also a lot of time when searching for a customer and items..

    Hi Bennie,

I jumped into the post as we were experiencing the same problem. The slowness in BOM as well as inventory for our company is resolved. I am not sure if this has been rectified with Irfaan.

    Regards,

    Chris

    Good Morning Chris

    Sorry, just to confirm:

    1) Are you and Irfaan working for the same company? Or have you just noted the same issue from another Evolution client?

    2) If you refer to BOM Slowness, do you mean the actual time it  takes to process the Manufacturing Process also - time it takes to complete since pressing the Save Process and Close button?

Or was it merely the time it took to capture and select all the stock/Bill components before finally processing?

    Kind Regards

    Bennie

    Hello Chris,

Glad Bennie's suggestion improved Evolution speeds.

Sorry I have been traveling so did not get chance to write back or even try this solution.

I will be trying this today and give feedback tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Irfaan
