I investigated your query in my own demo company (ver 10.1) and can confirm the following: 

The transaction line now is already included by default on both the Retail Till Slip and Retail Tax Invoice layouts, without having to customize the laouts at all.

If you don;t see it, it means someone has probably customized the layout to exclude the line note. Therefore, try printing the standard layout and you should see it on the screen preview, after the transaction line note is entered on the Retail document and processsed.
