Question on the Provisional Field in the Project management function (GESPJM)

In the Project Management function (GESPJM) does anyone have any insights on the nature of this "Provisional" indicator.

Is it simply an informational field to denote if the project is still pending sign-off from the management team or is there any deeper functionality behind it?

From the online help, it seems this is a description field only:

"Internal/Provisional/Template: Select the check box that best describes your project. You can use template projects as a model for creating new projects."
