In common data, Products, Product categories, it is possible to group products based on their management method such as manufactured, purchased, or subcontracted. In Sage X3, five different category types exist and can be associated with products:

Service: this type of category relates to a subcontract product, and it can be used in subcontract BOMs or subcontract routing operations. The flow type of service can be Bough, Sold, or Delivered. Normally, the stock management mode of this type of category is not managed.

Phantom: when the phantom is checked, the product is used in the Bill of Materials to group a set of components that can be used in manufactured products. This type is used with manufacturing and it is managed in stock.

Tools: when the tools box is checked, it means it is associated with an operation of a routing and is entered to represent the tool used. Tools can be managed in stock.

Generic: this type is not managed in stock, and it is more of a service type such as an expense or a service. A generic product can be bought, sold, manufactured, or delivered.

Maintenance: When this box is checked, it means it belongs to a maintenance category and it is accessed during the interface process with the web software AXEL-MMS product.
