Improve Security

I noticed that under Security Rights, you can only restrict the creation, editing, & deletion of a "Reference" in the "Client" section.  The restriction option is not listed in the slips section.  Since Sage Timeslips allows for a "Reference" to be created, edited, or deleted from both the client & slips sections this creates a security problem.  Even if you restrict a Timekeeper from being able to create, edit, or delete a "Reference" in the client section, they can still create, edit, or delete a "Reference" in the "Slips Section", so the security feature does really work to restrict all access to create, edit, or delete a "Reference".  It would be helpful if it allowed you to restrict it in all areas/sections.

  • , my subconscious has evidently been ruminating on this problem, because it came up with a bit of a backwards way to maybe stop folks from adding new References.

If it is a big enough problem for you, give me a shout and I'll explain further. It is sort of deep in the weeds for Sage City.

  • Thanks or the clarification . You are correct. It's actually a bug. I was testing editing the reference name and other options under the Open option on the right-click menu when in a Slip. But you are correct, that if they choose the NEW option on that right-click menu, then it does allow them to do it.

It's not so much that we need a second security area to configure, but that it should follow the security setting for the Client in ALL areas of the program.

Sage Folks, this needs to be fixed.

, thanks so much for letting them know.

  • I am using Timeslips Premium (Build 30.0.3.71).  When I go to "Security Settings", require login and activate security is checked off.  Then I have a template that assign to the new timekeepers which under client it has "Set all to No" for create, edit, delete, & export a reference, but the timekeeper can still create a reference in slips.

  • , your post intrigued me, so I did some testing. Not sure from your post which version you are using, and that may matter.

But using Timeslips Premium (Build 30.0.3.71) if I turn on security and set the permissions to NOT allow changes to references, it does in fact enforce that security setting when I try to make changes via Slips. The option to Open References in Slips really just tried to edit the same information in the database.  So you should be good with the one security setting.

Are you using a different version/build? Have you tested the setting when making slip?
