Default Payment from Funds Account

Hello!  I have searched for this answer to no avail. I know when you create a new Funds (AKA Retainer) Account payment, you have the option to check the box that says "Automatic payment of new charges on bill." However, our firm wants to set that as a default selection rather than having to select it every time we enter a new retainer payment. Is this possible?

Yes, but is not quite as easy as just checking an option.

The default setting can be inherited from a template client that has that preference set for the Funds Account. It is sort of like genetics, if the parents have blue eyes and red hair, then the children will have blue eyes and red hair. In the same way Template Clients can be set up to have various settings that can be "inherited" by new clients created to "Set up this record to match fields from."

You also want to avoid using unique Funds Accounts for each client and instead have each client share the one Funds account with that setting on it.

That is the basic idea, it is slightly more complex than that, but I just wanted you to know that it was possible.

Just give a shout if you would like help making it happen in your database.

Thanks for your quick reply, Nancy!

I had some basic training when I started using TS just over a year ago, but much of it has been self taught, especially through trial and error, lol!

I had a feeling this action would have to be done through those rules, but our rules were already established when I began using it, and I didn’t know how to change them. I will try to figure it out, but I will contact you if I need assistance. Thanks again!

Yes, it is a bit of a domino effect where IF A is set, then B can use that setting, to get C result.  But once you have all the dominoes set correctly it works very well.
