Bill layout - changing margins

SUGGESTED

I recently upgraded to the current version of Timeslips and want to adjust the margins on the bill layout.  When I go to Layout Options, Page Orientation and try to change the margins (so that they're wider), I get an error message "Timeslips could not change the margins on the layout; they may already be at their maximum allowable size.  If there are fields on the layout that stretch from the left margin to the right margin, reduce the width of those fields and try again."

How do I locate the field(s) that stretch from the left margin to the right margin?  I haven't edited a bill layout in years, and that was in a much older version.  The user manual is no help at all for this.

Many thanks in advance!

Hey , just wanted to reply and say that anything to do with layouts is really difficult to troubleshoot via a bulletin board just because the layout area is so visual.

That said, it sounds like what might be happening is that one of your fields is positioned so that if the program were to allow the wider margin, then the field would get cut off, so it is trying to warn you about that.

Without seeing the layout, it would be impossible for me to guess which field it is.

You might just want to try working with a brand new layout to get the look that you want rather than trying to edit an old/converted one.  Depends of course on how much customization you put into the old one.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, Nancy.  I assumed as much, but I was asking how I go about findng such a field.  I have a significant amount of customization in this layout and I really don't want to have to recreate it from scratch. Is there some sort of help article or debug script that can help me find the offending field(s)?  Thanks!
