LEDES1998 Export from Timeslips 2017

I am working to export my data from Sage Timeslips 2017 to LEDES1998 format.  In doing so, I see that the Timeslips Task Code field corresponds to the Line Item Activity Code in LEDES and the Timeslips Reference code corresponds to the Line Item Task Code field in LEDES.  I am not able to associate the Timeslips Task Code field to the Line Item Task Code Field in LEDES.  The Timeslips Task Code field is where all of my task codes are stored.  Is there a reason why the LEDES format does not allow for the association of the Timeslips Task Code field with the Line Item Task Code in LEDES?  If there is a way to make that change, what is the process for that.  Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

You are correct, the nomenclature can drive you a bit crazy. The A Codes (LEDES Activity Codes) go in the Timeslips Task List, while the L Codes (LEDES Task Codes) go in the Timeslips References List.

Originally (back in the day), Timeslips had one single list of both time activities and expense activities called the Activity list, but when they moved to v9 at the turn of the century, they split that one list into two lists: Tasks for time based activities and Expenses for money based activities.

I know of no way to pull a Ledes Task Code (L Code) from a Timeslips Task List (A Codes). Most LEDES export files require BOTH an A Code AND an L Code. If you have your L Codes in the Timeslips Task List, you should move them as they will not help you there. I usually set my firms up with a template client to hold a common L Code list, and then have individual clients use that common list to populate their individual L Code lists.
