Unfortunately, not really. So sorry that electronic billing has been visited upon you so late in his practice.

Very important here, if he does not supply the invoice in LEDES1998B format he will NOT get paid. Period. Those folks are not messing around. Since your January invoices need to be in this format, that means all of your December (at least) time and expenses need to be coded, so you are really under the gun here. 

LEDES1998B is a VERY specific format that you will not be able to recreate yourself without the addon. Since you are running v2014 and that is unsupported, Sage will not sell you the add on for an unsupported version.   So, essentially, you will not be able to create the file in the format that you need without upgrading. 

Some of the audit companies will allow you to create the LEDES1998 bill on their website by retyping it all in online. HUGE PITA, but that's really the only way I can see for you with what you have.

Anything else is going to easily be more than the price of the upgrade, even converting to something else. If it is a big enough customer for him, I'd just bite the bullet and get the upgrade.

On the upside, if you invest in learning how to do electronic billing, you will be a much more desirable hire to another firm once he closes. So, there's some upside to it.
