Unable to effectively purge slips in Timeslips Premium

I have a client that is currently running Timeslips 2020. They have purchased, and will soon be upgrading to Timeslips Premium. They are attempting to purge slips. This process seems to be problematic. What we’ve seen after doing various tests on various computer systems (including converting the data to release 29.0.1.64) is that the initial 5-10,000 slips can be purged, but if you attempt a larger batch, it slows to a crawl. In the chart below, we were attempting a purge of about 26,000 slips, and after about 18 hours, it still wasn’t complete. And you can see the pace at which the purging is done continues to decline as time goes on.

The reason this is a problem is that it makes the effort to purge 100,000 slips or more quite laborious, and introduces significant disruption in preventing users from getting into Timeslips.

Are there any plans to look at this process in the current version of Timeslips?

    Neil,

You said you tried on several computers and had similar responses, so it sounds like you are in a networked environment.  I would suggest you remove the network from the equation.

Instead, copy the database to the local C: drive of the fastest computer in their office. Then reboot the workstation. Once you log back in, do not start any other applications (like Outlook).  Disable any antivirus software and try the purge again.

Many times instead of doing this at a client site, I will download the database into my office.  I have a computer with an i9 cpu (16 cores), 32 GB of Ram and a fast solid state hard drive that I can dedicate to this. It removes their network and their environment from the equation.  Law offices don't always have the newest or fastest hardware.

But this is just my opinion,

    I could be wrong!

Yes, Michael, I did take the network out.  The numbers I included were my own local system.  The client's time frame on their network was much longer.  So, even using a local system it is quite an onerous experience if you have more than 20 thousand slips to purge, let alone more than 100,000.
