Migrating SageTimeslips to new server

SUGGESTED

Hi all,

We are migrating Sage Timeslips to a new server for one of our clients tonight and they do not have an active support agreement.  The version of Timeslips we are moving is 2019 and it is stored on a network share.  Based on the documentation I have reviewed from Sage the steps should be as follows:

1)  Copy and paste the current installation folder to the new server.

2)  Rename timeslips.cfg on the old server to oldtimeslips.cfg

3)  Open Station Administrator on any computer locate timeslips.cfg on the new server and Clear All licenses.

4)  Modify each workstation to point to timeslips.cfg on the new server.

5)  Copy the database to the new server and register as network database if necessary.

According to the Sage KB articles this is all we need to do.  Could someone please confirm if there is anything we are missing?

Thanks for the help!

Sean

    1. There is more to this migration than moving files.  I suggest you reach out to a Timeslips certified consultant for assistance. I’m available ([email protected]) as are many of my colleagues who post on this site.

is correct. There is more to it than that. Those instructions would work for the older Paradox version, but not for the v2019 Firebird version.

Since v2019 is unsupported by Sage, your best bet is to work with a Certified Consultant. I've done it for others, takes about an hour to hour and a half give or take if all goes smoothly.

But basically, a simple copy and paste won't work anymore.

Sage Knowledgebase article 57767 will provide the information you need.  The consultants responding can assist with any nuances and issues you might run into and likely will expedite the process.   It shouldn't take long if the Windows network firewall exceptions, user permissions on the share, etc. are setup correctly.

Note that you will have to have a copy of the 2019 install files, as Sage does not host the downloads for obsolete versions.  Again, a consultant can likely provide that.

Updating to Timeslips Premium will get the client on the most recent version with defect fixes and significant product enhancements and Sage provides direct support for the duration of renewal of the subscription.
