personal abbreviations

I'd like to know how I can share my personal abbreviations with another user?

Well, that's sort of the rub with personal abbreviations, by default they are not shared.

If you create a database abbreviation, it is available to ALL of your users. And Personals trump Database wide.  I.e., it scans your personals first, if it gets a hit, it uses that. If it doesn't, then will then scan the database wide ones and use those if it gets a hit.  So the whole firm could have an abbreviation  whereby TCW expands to "Telephone call with" but YOU might not like that and so could have a personal one that has TCW expand to "Telephone conference with." No problem, that's sort of what personal abbreviations are for.

If you just want to share your personal ones, you will need to copy your file and put it in a place that the other person can access.  Usually the original personal abbreviations file location is local to your PC. Which can mean that it sort of travels with your PC.  So if you get a new PC, you get to recreate those Personal Abbreviations unless someone has redirected their location to a safe spot first.

From the topmost menus, if you choose Setup, Abbreviations, you will see two tabs in the upper left: Database and Personal.  If you are on the Database tab, there is no file name displayed in the window title bar, but when you click on the Personal tab, you will see the location of your personal abbreviations file shown. You will also have Save As as an option button in the lower right (whereas on the Database tab this option is greyed out.)

Just choose to Save As and save the file in a common location to both of you so that the other person can go to the same place when they choose the option to Retrieve your file and have access to your Personal Abbreviations.

    Hope this helps.
