Q&A from SAP Crystal Reports - Linking Tables (Nov 17)

Thank you everyone for attending last weeks webinar on SAP Crystal Reports - Linking Tables.  Several participants expressed an interest in learning which table or field to select.  Next month, the Learning Series registration page will be updated with new webinars for the first part of the new year.  One of the webinars will be Building expressions.  This will cover how to use the data dictionary report and more.  In the meantime, here are some of the more common HR tables:

hrpersnl - Employee Personnel.  Contains information from the employee's Demographic page, HR Status, Current Job and more

hbene - Employee Benefits

hdepend - Employee Dependents

hdepben - Employee Dependent Benefits

hemrg - Emergency Contacts

hjobhis - Employee Job History

For custom pages hrtkpers (Single record employee custom detail) or Tkmulxxx (x's are for multi-record custom pages and can range from 001-999).

If you are interested in linking tables in the payroll module, be sure to join us next week on November 30th, 2020 where the examples used will be from the payroll module. Also included will be a list of commonly used payroll tables. Please note that the theory and content demonstrated will be the same whether you are using HR or Payroll.  To register for an upcoming webinar, click here.

Below is a list of questions and answers from November 17, 2020 'SAP Crystal Reports: Linking Tables (Intermediate Level)' webinar.

Do you have any tips/tricks/guides for working with payroll databases & linking them to other payroll databases as well as other HR ones? Seems like Crystal has quirks when dealing with both?

Yes, we do. Be sure to attend the second offering of this webinar on November 30, 2020. The tables will be Payroll tables.

What's the difference between _name1 and _name2

It is how they are shown in the report. _name1 is Last, First, Middle name and _name2 is First, Middle, Last name. Prior to inserting the field on the report, you can right click on the field in the field explorer and select Browse data for a random sampling of the data to see what it will look like.

Is there a way to find what information is in each table?

There sure is. If you go into Sage HRMS there is a Data Dictionary set of reports that will show you table and field information. Navigation Path: Reports > (System) Data Dictionary Reports. It's also in Help!

Is there an easy way to know the table and field names for users screens and pay checks?

If you go into Sage HRMS there is a Data Dictionary option in reports that will show you both the tables and the fields. The Help section also has this too.
