HRMS 2017 Employee Attachments

Is anyone using Employee Attachments in HRMS 2017?

I am curious about how adding attachments affects system performance i.e. does it bog the system down? 

When an attachment is added, is it embedded with a link to an external source, or does the file actually get stored in the database?

    Hi Terry, we've been using the attachments feature since v.2015 and from our experience it has been pretty cumbersome at times.  Initially, the attachments were referenced from an external source, but since 2017 (if i remember right) it's now stored in the database.

    The biggest impact we noticed was when downloading for review, the client system would go unresponsive as the file was downloaded from the server, and the larger the file, the longer is would take.

    Now with Windows 10 clients, it appears to be a gamble on which attachment will download/open vs which will cause the HRMS client to crash (we're working on this one now).

    If you've tried it since posted, i'd be interested to hear how things went for you guys.  So far, we only have and employee history (xls) document attached.
