1099 amounts do not include the following:

• Taxes paid
• Discounts taken
• Deductions
• Payments made by credit card
• Payments made on distributions marked as "exempt"

Hi April.  None of the things u listed are in play I don't think. I write a check each month, one total amount that goes to our rent GL.  Wouldn't the 1099 amount exactly match my total amounts paid ?

Do you process the 1099s by fiscal entity or GL prefix? Were any of the payments paid under different entities/prefixes?

If that doesn't apply to you, then does it look like the difference are payments from the beginning of the year? If the 1099 year doesn't get closed timely, then payments could end up accumulating in the wrong bucket. For example, if the 1099 year was still in 2019 at the time that Jan 2021 payments were posted, then those Jan 2021 payments would have gotten lumped into the Next Year totals which would have been for 2020.

Ok that makes some sense.  First time using the 1099s in Sage and the year was set to 2013. I just closed it to 2021 today, lol... just trying to figure everything out. 

Ok then you'll want to take advantage of using the 1099 Recalculation tool to update the 1099 amounts.
