If the amount should have been posted to a different job in a different tax jurisdiction (state or local), then negative hours can only be entered when there is enough positive pay so that it doesn't result in negative gross pay for any jurisdiction.  So I enter negative hours the same bad way it was done before, and then enter positive hours the way it should have been done.  It's not perfect for fringes, etc. but we're ok with that.

Thanks Rhonda V for your time in assisting with my delima...however, I need to get this money back from the employee. He was paid hours on this job and it was actually another employee that did the work and has been paid...I'm not understanding how to reverse the pay within this system as I am used to haveing a "pay code" called "retro" and I would just enter a negative here and it would take care of everything.

Wanda, if you have support with Sage you may want to give us a call to review your setup and assist you with the process. I assume this employee still works for you, is that correct?

I think the same idea applies.  You would enter negative hours for the job at the OT rate.  However, he has to have positive gross on other jobs that are at least equal to the negative gross in the same tax jurisdictions.  I understand this is because the tax tables which are applied on the total gross by jurisdiction, cannot compute on a negative total in that jurisdiction.  So let's say the tax is on wages in California.  If total gross for California is negative, then taxes won't work.  If total gross for California is zero or more, you will be fine.
