The new form is included in the year-end supported version which is 20.3

Version 20.3.1 is the year-end version that includes the changes to the 1099 forms with the addition of 1099-NEC.

You can process your W2s on v18.4 but you will need to be on 20.3 for your 1099s
I upgraded and then the Merge function did not work. We received an error everytime we tried to merge the NEC with the MISC to make one 1096. On phone with Aatrix now to see if they can merge the documents for me post processing.

The NEC and MISC are different form types. The 1096 only allows for one form type per submission. 1099s are filed by form type and Federal ID. You can only merge files if the form type and federal ID are the same.
Can the 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC be merged into one filing or combined on the same 1096 form?
