AP Closing Issue

An out-of-state BusinessWorks user contracted me to upgrade their BusinessWorks from version 2015 to 2021.  They did not return any of my phone calls or give me any details, such as where the backups are stored.  Over the weekend, the IT person and I muddled through the upgrade with ancient machines and network issues.  Before he even connected me remotely to the servers, he upgraded their server OS from 2003 to 2008.

Then I logged in and took a backup of all the companies.  We moved the backups to the new server and installed a clean copy of 2021 with service pack 8, and updated all of the databases.

I checked in with them first thing on Monday, and they would not speak to me.  Today the company finally got back to me in an email.  They can't close CM and AP.  It gets in a loop with the progress bar reading 41358%.  In all my years, I've never seen that happen, and my searches on the Knowledge base return nothing.

Is this something a rebuild would fix?  Or should I ask them to hunt down the most recent backup and restore, then redo the company database update?  Or is this something that would need me to call in Sage for a Data Repair?
