federal taxes for first payroll of the year

Yet again, the amount withheld and the amount due don't match for the first payroll of the year. It's only by 4 cents, but it seems to happen every year now. Can someone remind me how to fix it so I don't have to waste a support call again.

  • Carlie-

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the issue you mentioned - with the amount withheld and the amount due does not match.  However, if this is something you have a previous case, you can review your previous case notes to see how it was resolved.  Your support case information can be reviewed in the Sage Customer/Partner Portal using the steps found here: https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/viewdocument.do?externalID=87270

    Sincerely,

    Coleen

Coleen, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the instructions on the link you sent aren't helpful. I don't see a red cases icon anywhere.
The issue I'm having is that when I add up FWT and both FICAs on my payroll register, it comes out to 4 cents less than the amount showing when I post my 941 (FWT and FICA) deposit. Typically these numbers match. It's happened the last several years because Sage doesn't get all the updates out in time for my first payroll. I can just make my deposit for the 4 extra cents, but things will be off all year.

    Carlie-

I searched the Knowledge Base and I am not aware of any issue with the tax amounts not being correct in our current version.  There was an issue in V2021 that was resolved in SP 1.  You should be on V2021 SP 7 through the end of 2021 AND printing all your tax forms.  After printing all your tax forms, then you can in SP 8 for v2021.

Sorry about the confusion with the article.  It does appear things have been moved on the website.

I was able to get to cases by following these steps:

If you are still not able to review your cases, you can work with the Live Chat team for assistance on reviewing your previous case notes.

I found some additional articles you can search in the Knowledge Base that may assist with verifying your tax numbers:

How Federal withholding tax (FWT) and state withholding tax (SWT) are calculated (19489)

What report shows the liability amount for the FICA and FWT (941) Deposits (91498)

If you are unable to review the previous case notes or if the articles above do not help and you still have concerns with your calculations, then I would recommend working with a support analyst to troubleshoot your issue further.

    Sincerely,

    Coleen

Thanks Coleen. This was helpful in reviewing what happened the previous two years. Last year I was unaware of the update and in 2020 it hadn't been released before my first payroll. Updating resolved it both times. Since there is no update that I've missed this year, I will have to contact support if it doesn't correct itself in my next payroll.

    Thanks again,

    Carlie
