Constant "cannot execute due to a network license limit" Errors.

SOLVED

So, our BW install has been running without issue for years. Yesterday morning my users (5) started reporting "cannot execute due to a network license limit" errors. This is not a hung task or hung user issue as, once everyone has exited the client, no users or tasks are visible in either "dbregister or the "Network Status Report". In response I installed the most recent HF (which claimed to have mitigated this issue) but the problem persists. 2020 was initially installed in October. Anyone have any advice on this?

Sorry, should have been "2021 was initially installed in October"

First, make sure you are still selecting to "Disconnect all Users" while you are in DBRegister even if it is blank.  It could still resolve your issue.

If that does not resolve it, then you can try these addition steps from How to release or disconnect stranded users or tasks (17294)

    1. Use the Network Status option to locate the stranded user and workstation.
    2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del on the keyboard to access the Windows Task Manager.
    3. Click the Processes tab.
    4. Select the check box to show processes for all users.
    5. Scroll through the list to locate any processes that start with "Task" and end with 4 numbers (for example Task0201.exe). Highlight the task, and click the End Process button. Repeat this process for any other TaskXXXX.exe found in the list.
    6. Locate the bwserver.exe and end that process also.
    7. After all the tasks are removed from Task Manager, and the bwserver.exe is ended.
    8. Open the Windows Control Panel, and select Administrative ToolsServices
    9. Right click on the service related to the Pervasive Sql engine, and stop, and then restart the service.
    10. Open Sage BusinessWorks. If an error occurs, close the error, and open Sage BusinessWorks again.
    11. Enter the user's ID and password. Click Log In.
    12. From the Sage BusinessWorks Launcher, exit Sage BusinessWorks. When you exit Sage BusinessWorks, the stranded task or user should be reset.
    13. Launch Sage BusinessWorks, and verify that the stranded user or task is cleared. If the user or task remains, repeat steps in Method 1.
    14. If continue to have open tasks, see Knowledge Base article in Related Resources - #30795 "How to close open files on the server".
    15. If all of the above steps fail, shut down the computer by pushing and holding the power button until the computer shuts down. Ending the tasks should preclude the necessity of performing the drastic shutdown.
    16. Reboot server.

Hi Jay - Please download and install Sage BusinessWorks 2021 SP 1 that was released yesterday.  This service pack is a bit different as there are 2 files associated with it.  Please see article 108011 for further instructions on installing this service pack.  Once the service pack has been installed go to Utilities, Registration Information, Network Registration and verify that your serial number and unlocking key for your network extension is listed.  You can find this key when you login to the customer portal at customers.sagenorthamerica.com. Once that has been entered you should be able to get all 5 users in.

Thank you for taking the time with such a well thought out reply. It doesn't apply to my situation but it may help others having a similar issue.

Thank you. I'll give it a try tonight and mark as solution if appropriate.
